On May 21, 2018 we turned off our system which melted the ice down to our sand floor. Mother nature took over and the water seeped into the ground and the sand slowly dried. Then our staff, using shovels and their bare hands, removed the dirt away from the pipes and the inside perimeter of the whole rink. They took many trips from inside the rink to outside the rink taking wheelbarrows and buckets of discolored sand out. Then we hired a company who came in and repaired all the leaks. Then another came in and replaced the whole perimeter of the ice rink with new material. Truckloads of new sand was bought and wheelbarrowed inside the arena and our staff dispersed and leveled it. Water was added to the sand for packing. The cooling system was turned on and the inside our ice rink returned to cold temperatures again. Painting began by painting the whole sand floor white. Then a thin layer of water was added to form a thin layer of ice. Then our staff continued painting lines and advertising logos. Afterwards there were several days and nights where our staff was spraying water and waiting to freeze and respraying with more water and freezing until about 2" of ice is reached. Special thanks to our staff who worked many days and hours to get the job complete. Now there's nice clean ice and no more separation from the boards behind the goalie net.
